When Tom the Architect had the agreement of a building owner to place a cat sculpture he contacted his good friend, York Sculptor Jonathan Newdick and asked him to design and make a cat sculpture that would be suitable for the building, it could be a for a wall, a window sill, a rooftop or even balcony railings. Jonathan would work in his studio; from which the cat would emerge after two or three months. There are several stages in the creation of each Cat sculpture, starting with a clay model through to the final feline, polished and patinated. Afterwards there is the skilful and important task of fixing the cat securely on the building.

To celebrate the success of the book, Jonathan has made his artist’s edition of small scale Cat sculptures. Souvenir Cats of York

These are genuine York cats, hand made by Jonathan, each one embossed with his mark, made in a natural non-toxic british material, some have the addition of bronze metal, hand patinated to achieve rich natural colours, such as a soft brown, and mottled Verdisgris versions, both sealed with a natural wax polish.

Jonathan was elected member of the Royal Society of Sculptors nearly 20 years ago, and has worked from his York studio, making cats sculptures for York, over 40 years.

Puurfect Companions

There are two types of cats available : 8 cms and 5cms. They are different in character, the larger one is looking upwards, composed and expectant; the smaller one is quietly observing the world in contemplation. They are both very tactile having a soft textured surface, and a good weight in the hand.
